About Caledonian

  • Caledonian School was one of Prague's first private language schools.
  • The school opened shortly after the famous 1989 "Velvet Revolution".
  • The school's directors are dedicated to bringing modern, professional, student-centred language education to Czech people.
  • The school's main building is located in Andel, one of Prague's main business districts.
  • Our students come from all walks of Czech life.
  • Apart from English, we also teach a variety of languages, including French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish and Czech; our international teaching staff gives the school a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
  • The experienced teachers in our Academic Office assist new teachers in professional development through observations, feedback and methodology workshops.
  • Our course books - primarily from Oxford University Press - reflect the school's commitment to providing teachers and students with state-of-the-art teaching materials.
  • We hope that you will consider making Caledonian School part of your TEFL career.

Why choose the Caledonian TEFL course?

In addition to our highly practical morning workshops, you will spend your afternoons preparing for and teaching groups of ESL students. We believe we are unique in offering a job guarantee to every trainee who successfully completes the course. The usual course size is 8-12 trainees. Further, by doing a course at the school where you plan to work, you will eliminate the post course stress that teachers face when trying to find employment in a foreign country. The course will keep you quite busy and not having to worry about finding a job after will ease the pressure.

Our Personnel Office will help you with practical relocation issues, like getting your local transport pass (included in the price of the course) and assist with work and residency visas after the course.

Our course trainers are all experienced teachers and teacher trainers. Our course training materials, from Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and other top publishers, are state-of-the-art. Our 200 plus corporate clients, where you will have at least some of your post-course lessons, include some of the best-known companies in the world. Our more than 1,000 in-school students come from all walks of Czech life.

Because the course is based on the highly successful, student-centred, communicative methods used at the Caledonian School, as well as university ELIs (English language institutes), public schools and private language schools, your training will be highly valuable and applicable around the world. Training here will also serve as an excellent foundation for future study for those who plan to earn a master's degree in the area of TESOL or Applied Linguistics.

Our school facilities are completely up to date - our teacher support library has over 3,000 volumes; our library staff are there to guide you to supplementary materials that you will find helpful both during and after the course; our 27 classrooms are comfortable and well equipped; our cafe serves hot and cold dishes as well as hosting parties for teachers; and our teachers' room, with photocopier, computers and internet access including WiFi, is open 6 days a week.
