Caledonian School

FAQ

  • How does communication concerning company courses work?

Each client of our language school has their own Course Manager (CM) who takes care of the lessons from the administrative side and informs the client about any changes in the language courses. Specific questions and requirements (invoices, course books, prices) may be handled by other departments, but the CM will function as a mediator between the client and these departments and will be the first contact for any communication.

  • Are there any rules for language teaching in company courses?

Teaching itself is always adjusted to the requirements and wishes of our clients. Companies often have their internal rules for language teaching: e.g. classes can take place only before or after working hours; there are special criteria for putting a student into a group or a one-to-one course; whether course books are paid by the company or student; whether progress testing is once or twice a year, etc. All rules and requirements of the company are respected by the CM who administers the courses.

  • Where do company courses take place?

Teachers usually come to the companies where the students work, thus classes take place on the company premises. However, it is also possible to have classes in the classrooms at our school branches. When the client requires that the classes take place on our premises, the CM first has to check whether the required number of classrooms is available. The client is charged for using our classrooms.

  • Who teaches at the Caledonian School?

All of our teachers have pedagogical education. They either have a university degree or an international teaching certificate, or both. In the course of their teaching career here at the Caledonian School, our teachers also attend workshops and further develop their teaching skills. In order to make their teaching professional and effective, our teachers have access to modern teaching materials and they have strong pedagogical support. All the language levels, except beginners, are taught by native speakers from the USA, Great Britain, Canada, France, Spain and Germany. We choose our teachers at our recruitment offices in Canada, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. You can find out more about Caledonian School teachers in Teachers.

  • When do language courses start?

It is possible to start the language course at any time of the year. Usually we are able to administer and start a course within 14 days of placing students at appropriate language levels.

  • How can students find out their language level?

Each student takes our written placement test, which is available on our website. Our CM will gladly provide the link. Students who are complete beginners do not have to take this test. If you wish, there can also be oral testing, which can take place either in your company or in the Caledonian School premises.

  • What should be done if a student cannot come to class?

There are two possibilities for rescheduling/cancelling a lesson in the case of a student’s illness, holiday or a planned business meeting:

    1. The student can talk to the teacher directly and reschedule the class. It is essential to inform the CM about this.
    2. The student can contact the CM via e-mail or phone, who will inform the teacher. Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled by 5:00pm on the day before the planned lesson will still be invoiced to the company.

  • How can students obtain course books and other study materials?

You can obtain information about course books and study materials, their prices and payment details at library@caledonianschool.com or you can phone 257 313 650. You can also ask your Course Manager. Some companies pay for their students‘ teaching materials, some students pay for them on their own.
