FCE
First Certificate in English
FCE is a highly valued certificate, especially when looking for a new job. It is the most comprehensive Cambridge certificate, as it requires knowledge of all the language skills. This exam is taken after reaching the Upper-Intermediate level (B2). Passing this exam requires a detailed one-year preparation as well as mastery of all the language skills. It is assumed that learners at this level can effectively communicate in an English environment (as in the positions of agents, assistants or managers). This exam is usually taken after 500 to 600 lessons.
The exam consists of 5 parts:
- reading (1 hour 15 minutes)
- writing (1 hour 30 minutes)
- use of English (grammar) (1 hour 15 minutes)
- listening (approx. 40 minutes)
- an oral exam (about 14 minutes).
