Diplôme élementaire de langue française
DELF diplomas are recognized in the Czech Republic in the area of public administration at most of the universities, and in many private businesses. It is also possible to validate them in various programmes supported by the European Union. This diploma is a certificate of basic knowledge of the French language. It has four levels (A1, A2, B1, B2) and exams at every level consist of four parts – listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, and speaking.
- DELF A1
Learners are able to communicate in simple situations. They can answer simple questions about themselves, where they live, people they know and things they possess. They can also ask questions concerning the topics mentioned.
Learners can express themselves when talking about matters important to them, they use simple sentences, but they do not repeat the same stereotypical phrases and expressions. This exam lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes and 50-100 lessons are required.
- DELF A2
This is the “able to survive“ level. Learners have basic social skills (common polite expressions, establishing contact, answers to invitations, questions about occupation, free time…), they can speak about travelling, cultural events, everyday matters (have a conversation in a shop, in a bank or at the post office; ask for information at the travel agent; travel by public transportation – ask for basic information, ask for directions, give directions, buy tickets; name everyday objects and ask for them). This exam lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes and 100 – 150 lessons are required.
- DELF B1
Learners are able to continue a conversation and reach their aim in various situations such as following the main points of a discussion that concerns them, expressing opinions, asking for an opinion in a friendly conversation… Learners skilfully cope with everyday problems, i.e. travelling by public transportation, organizing a trip, making complaints, speaking at a meeting, asking for explanation or specification of an idea.
This exam lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes and 150 – 250 lessons are required.
- DELF B2
Learners can argue convincingly, defend their opinions, develop a viewpoint, formulate pros and cons, give reasons, negotiate, make concessions, evaluate hypothetical situations…Learners do not have problems with social communication. They understand common French in detail, even in a noisy environment, and they adjust to the changes of style and tone that occur during conversation. Learners comprehend the language at a higher level. They can correct mistakes that may lead to a misunderstanding and consciously control their speech so as to avoid these mistakes altogether. This exam takes 2 hours and 30 minutes and 250 – 400 lessons are required.
