TEFL Job Guarantee
The Caledonian School TEFL certificate course is designed to meet the needs of teachers considering TEFL employment either in Prague or around the world. The Caledonian School’s job guarantee is based on the grade system for the course. The school awards the following passing grades: PASS 1 (excellent pass), PASS 2 (good pass), and PASS 3 (basic pass), with PASS 3 being the lowest passing grade.
Those who receive a PASS 1 will receive an immediate full-time job guarantee following the course.
Those who receive a PASS 2 will be considered for a full-time position following the course, depending on current hiring needs, and will be offered employment upon a successful interview with the academic staff.
Graduates waiting for a future position to begin may:
- use the teachers' room with computers/wi-fi/free local phone calls
- attend teachers' pedagogical workshops presented by the school's Academic Office
- attend all school teachers' parties and other social events
- receive job guidance related to schools in Prague
Those who receive a PASS 3 and those who do not pass the course have no job guarantee.
For your information, full-time teachers are contracted for 26 lessons a week (one lesson = 45 minutes). Full and part-time teachers also have full use of the Caledonian School teachers` room and its computers and printers. Further, they can make free local phone calls from the teachers' room and participate in teacher development workshops and social events.

The demand for English as a second language (ESL) has been rising worldwide, especially in Eastern Europe. The number of teachers currently available is insufficient to fill all vacancies. TEFL courses aim to give people with little or no teaching experience adequate knowledge and skills to begin a career in the field of English language teaching. Teaching positions are available in private schools, state schools, universities, and businesses.
Current job conditions in the Czech Republic
Full-time instructors usually teach 20-26 lessons per week. The monthly gross earnings package for a qualified teacher is approximately 20,000 Czech crowns gross based on 25-lesson workweek (17,000kc net). This salary package enables you to have a modest Czech lifestyle and is a ‘living wage’ but not a ‘saving wage’. Taxation in the Czech Republic is 15%.

Teachers working for the Caledonian School at an out-of-Prague location in the Czech Republic receive free shared accommodation which means they can possibly save a portion of their salary. Teaching contracts are flexible, usually on year-round or half-year bases. Medical insurance is normally provided by the employer.
