Regular Observation of Students‘ Progress
Caledonian School lessons are effective and progress is measurable
In our language school, we have a complex and objective system of measuring students‘ progress, which enables us to see whether students reach the goals that have been set. All the procedures of this system (testing, student feedback, teacher observations) were developed according to ISO standards. After successful completion of a course, students will receive a Caledonian School Certificate.
Evaluating effectiveness of language learning consists of:
- Determining the starting language level of students and setting goals.
- Regular Progress Tests (based on teaching materials, adjusted to the focus of the course).
- Progress reports.
- Monitoring of attendance.
Evaluating the effectiveness of language learning serves:
- The teacher and students who can then adjust the syllabus of the course with respect to problematic areas.
- As a signal to implement immediate changes to the syllabus, in the event that language learning is not effective enough.
Progress tests:
- Testing usually takes place at the end of winter and summer semester. We recommend setting the pass mark to at least 70%.
- Tests are based on the teaching materials. Tests are written and students have a time limit of 90 minutes.
- For clients who require more frequent testing, Caledonian School has developed control tests. These tests are also written, but they take 60 minutes.
Progress Report:
- The teacher describes the students‘ strengths and weaknesses, and evaluates their activity in lessons, homework, etc.
Attendance statistics:
- Attendance statistics contains data about the attendance of every student. In one chart, you will find student’s attendance for each month, as well as an overall percentage of attendance.
- We recommend setting minimal attendance to 75%.
